about

after dealing with chronic digestive issues and a very scary hospitalization with my puppy, eddie, in 2017 we made the switch to raw food.  I was having a hard time finding filler or starch free treats that I could use for training as he was just 14 weeks old at the time.

many of the natural or single ingredients treats I could find were cut in huge slices, making them difficult to break up into small enough pieces for training without overfeeding or freeze dried options that crumbled to dust in my pocket.

I bought a dehydrator and got to work - cutting up meat into itty bitty pieces by hand. soon, people at our training class and the dog park started asking about the treats and if they could purchase them.

we were living in Vancouver at the time, and my treats were predominantly sourced from large grocery stores. I knew I could never feel good about selling treats sourced from industrial farming practices - I needed to know exactly where my products were coming from. when we moved to the comox valley a year later I found a strong independent farming community and knew this was the place where I could start the business I wanted to.

strait to summit launched in october 2018 and has been growing exponentially since then, positively impacting the lives of our community, from producers to the pets that enjoy our products and their owners.

what sets us apart

sourcing

we believe that farm to table isn't just for high priced restaurants. we support independent agriculture, regenerative farming practices and sustainable fisheries. we create additional revenue streams for producers by purchasing items that have little demand in local markets. our sourcing ethos is "one bad day" - our farmers raise their animals with humanely and with compassion.

transparency

we want to connect pet owners with where their pet's food is coming from so we name our producers on all single origin products and provide farm information right on the bag.

relationships

we work closely with our farmers and producers - they even approve the farm blurbs on the back of every bag. cultivating relationships is as the root of our business.

advantages

we care about dogs and our mission is to create the best possible products for their enjoyment and for their health. strait to summit started due to our own dog's food allergies and we are committed to providing treats that are allergy and sensitive-tummy safe.

innovation

these aren't your average limited ingredient treats. we meticulously craft all of our recipes to please even the pickiest pets and their owners. from hand cut, bite sized training treats to 100% meat nutritional bars we want to challenge your expectations of what a natural treat company can do.

taste

simple, wholesome and delicious - we guarantee your dog will be begging for more. we receive so many messages from pet owners that we've helped progress their training and our treats are the only ones their dogs won't refuse - especially in high stress or distracting environments.

our mission

At strait to summit we believe in slow food – sourcing locally; preserving heritage breeds; and supporting restorative, organic farming practices. Our mission is to bring ethically produced, sustainable food to your pets.

No fillers, starches or preservatives – just nutritious, 100% protein treats that drive even the pickiest dogs wild.

We seek to fill a gap that is missing within the natural pet industry. Each item is meticulously tested and highly curated to ensure these dehydrated, natural treats break apart easily for training and for smaller dogs.

Everything we do is with the safety and health of dogs in mind – bones are dehydrated low and slow to retain the integrity of collagen and reduce the likelihood of bones shattering. These are a fantastic alternative to traditional smoked bones for health conscious pet owners.

All items are sourced from the waters and fields of the beautiful Comox Valley and North Vancouver Island, BC.

where do you ship?

at this time we are only able to ship within canada. we are hoping to be able to expand to the usa in early 2022.

why so expensive?

we purchase our products directly from small, traditional farms that raise their animals humanely and on pasture. pasture raised animals require more land, take longer to grow to weight and are smaller than animals that are raised in feed lots - this correlates to higher prices for us. we feel that supporting farmers is well worth the additional cost and you can feel good knowing that the products you are purchasing support community members instead of industrial farming processes. additionally, as we do not use any fillers, each 50g bag of treats is equal to 200-250g (7-9oz) of raw meat. training mixes offer approximately 325g (11.5oz) of pure meaty goodness.

I want “X” item, but it’s out of stock
